Dick Cheney, renaissance man

Scott Westerfeld pointed out this, um, disturbing CNN headline.

Cheney to be in charge during Bush colonoscopy. Truly, is there nothing this man cannot do?

Let’s see… Tell the truth? Shoot straight while pissed? Not be rated the most unpopular VP of the last century?

Stephen, I think you’re being terribly unfair on Mr Cheney. (1) Mr Cheney always tells the truth for certain values of truth. (2) If you know how to break down the poll figures, he is tremendously popular with the most important demographic of the US electorate: Bush appointees. (3) Why do you think he didn’t shoot straight? I know, he had to say he didn’t for those pesky reporters, but I think that Mr Cheney is secretly proud to have shot Mr Whittington, and Mr Whittington is secretly proud to have been shot by Mr Cheney. Besides, it’s harder than it looks. Mr Whittington may be a 78-year-old lawyer with heart disease, but he can move hell fast when he wants to.
