Finally came up with a decent banner to replace the default Velocity image. The image is a detail from the amazing Chanin Building in New York City. Overshadowed by the more famous Chrysler Building, the Chanin has a decidedly uniconic shape; its structure is perhaps a little more interesting than the usual boxy skyscraper, but the building’s surfaces are covered with gorgeous art deco friezes that feature a disturbingly Lovecraftian look. I wonder if it wasn’t part of the inspiration behind the evil building in Ghostbusters (the gargoyle dogs in the movie seem to me to be modelled on those on the Chrysler Building).
