O.k. let me say this once and then let's never discuss it again: I don't appear in stains under underpasses. It isn't that I couldn't, but seriously what would be the point?

Sure, I did the grilled cheese thing, but I was just teasing.

Your friend, Mary.

There's been alot of hype about the Virgin Mary's image popping up all over the place in recent months. Over the past week a piece of soap bearing Mary's image has gained a ton of attention in the local news and on blogs. The person who owns it just put it up for sale on ebay yesterday, I think this is the link...?..

David S: Beleive it or not, Marys appearance in the image of the rock seen on blog titled:"Miraculous Millennium of Mary", is the bare truth that Virgin Mary is showing herself in an image so clear never seen before. Well there you have it, just before the Da Vinci Code movie release, heres your predication come true! Hail Mary, Mother of God!

Amazing how it's almost always Mary who makes these appearances - anniversary of JP II's death and yet it's not him, just good old Mary putting in the hard yards again. And we know what he looked like too...

With the Da Vinci Code movie about to open I guarantee that somewhere in the world, just down the road from, or maybe right outside of, a theatre showing it an image of Mary will be seen. Not Jebus, (and certainly not Dan Brown!) but his poor old hard working mum, in a stain.

What gets me is the number of morons that claim a blob 'looks exactly like her'. Like anyone even knows what Mary looks like!

I was impressed by this article by Richard Roeper in the Chicago Sun-Times:

http://www.findarticles.com/p/articles/mi_qn4155/is_20050420/ai_n14594992

Roeper's closing paragraphs are worth repeating:

* * *

I stop taking digital photos and observing the crowd for a few moments, and I focus on the image itself. Sure, it sorta-kinda looks like the Virgin Mary. At any given moment, there are about 100 million stains forming on walls and on shower floors and in refrigerators. Occasionally you'll get one that looks like Jesus or the Virgin Mary; just as often, you'll get one that looks like Cedric the Entertainer or Kelly Clarkson.

Just a few steps west of the holy image, leaning against a streetlight pole on Fullerton, there is a homeless man, holding up a small cardboard sign that says:

HELP

I'M HUNGRY

You'd chastise a screenwriter for such easy symbolism, but there the man sits, squinting against the sun and holding up his sign.

In clusters of two and three and four, the faithful who are flocking to and from the image of the Virgin Mary -- they walk right past the homeless man. They walk right past him, as if he's not even there.
