Artist Shaun Tan and director Andrew Ruhemann have won the Academy Award for Best Animated Short Film. C’est magnifique!

Margo Lanagan, Shaun Tan win World Fantasy Awards

In parochial news, Margo Lanagan’s novel Tender Morsels tied with Jeffrey Ford’s The Shadow Year for Best Novel and Shaun Tan was awarded Best Artist at the World Fantasy Awards. Neither was at the ceremony to collect their awards. Shaun was too busy working on a film and Margo had decided to stay home on the argument that turning up to awards seemed to be the best way to lose them. Looks like she was right.

Other winners: Ellen Asher and Jane Yolen for Life Achievement, Kij Johnson’s “26 Monkeys, Also the Abyss” for Best Short Story, Richard Bowes’s “If Angels Fight” for Best Novella, Sedia Ekaterina’s Paper Cities for Best Anthology, Jeffrey Ford’s The Drowned Life for Best Collection (yep, that’s a two-fer), Kelly Link & Gavin J. Grant’s Small Beer Press and Big Mouth House for Special Award (Professional), and Michael J. Walsh’s Howard Waldrop collections from Old Earth Books for Special Award (Non-professional).

Melbourne wins 2010 Worldcon

Just through the email from Jonathan Strahan, it seems that Melbourne has won the 2010 Worldcon bid and that Shaun Tan will be Artistic GoH. Congratulations to everyone on the committee. Here’s the bid’s website. It’s going to be a great convention.
